Everything that Adado says in his review is true. I, too, have had experience of this badly managed, money grabbing site. The people in charge have no consideration or concern for the caravan owners.
Both the gas and the electricity are extremely expensive. The electricity is often turned off without any warning or explanation, as is the water which sometimes comes from a well, and not the mains. When the supply reaches the bottom of the storage tank, you are treated to the disgusting experience of muddy, jet black water pouring from the taps, again without any warning. wonderful if you just happen to be mid-shower at the time. No effort is ever made to explain the situation.
The rubbish bins are continually left to overflow before being only partly emptied, resulting in flies and really stinking.
There are many aspects of this site that are dangerously in need of repair and maintenance for instance, the steps and railing leading to the swimming pool. Neither the pool, which is rarely heated or open, nor the bar/restaurant, is accessible to the disabled or anyone having difficulty with stairs.
When it comes to selling a caravan, one is obliged to give the site owner first refusal, receiving a derisory offer bearing no relation to the actual value of the van. If eventually selling privately, a minimum of £1500 commission must be paid to the site owner. There is also an exorbitant charge for taking a caravan off the site.
Do yourself a favour. Think twice.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Membre Qype (sooty1…)Chester, Royaume-Uni0114 févr. 2012
Well i totally disagree with what 'takenotice' is saying here,'A badly managed, money grabbing site'?? Not in my opinion and not the opinion of many i now know on the site. Yes, improvements can be made there, but isnt the whole country in need of improvement ??
Me and my family have owned a caravan on PenYWern holiday park for the last 4 years and we absolutely love it there .
Before being at penywern we had a caravan on a high profile site 'not mentioning any names' in north wales where i paid £15,000 for a 1998 static caravan. Ground fees for the season were £4000. Two years after buying that caravan in north wales we was told by the owners that we had to upgrade the caravan at a cost of nearly £10,000 or we had the choice of taking the caravan off the site at a huge price or we sold it back to them for £4000. We had no choice but to sell it back to them for £4000. With this money plus an extra £1500 on top i bought exactly the same caravan at penywern , we are still in the same van and love it plus the owner said we wont have to upgrade as long as its kept tidy, Thats GREAT !! Plus its a nicer site than the one in north wales.
At penywern we pay £2180 per year site fees, £31 for a gas bottle wich lasts us ages and a £20 electric card will also last us very well compared to being at home. Our water has always been fine there, only once our electric stopped because we forget to top up with an electric card LOL !!
Weve had a great time at the club singing in the kareoke , the food is good, A pint is £2.60 so i cant grumble with that and its always been open whilst weve been there.
The swimming pool is open throughout the summertime ,BUT it wasnt heated this season but ive been told by the owner that there is a new boiler fitted so it will be heated again this year !! YIPPY!!!!
As for selling our caravan, The owner told me he would give me the same as what i paid for it 4 years ago if i upgraded, yes there is a £1500 commission fee if we sold private and wanted to leave, but atleast we CAN sell it private unlike the site we were on before, And i totally understand this fee from the owner, Otherwise everybody would be buying and selling their caravans on penywern with no control for the site owner whatsoever.
But we dont want to sell our caravan on penywern because we love the caravan and love the site.
Weve been told by the owner that a new shop and coffe shop is opening in march and the fishing pond has been revamped!!
I cant wait to get back there in march !!!
