I finallyyyyyyy got to try Nina and Rafi's! As a Detroit native, I was thrilled to finally get to try this place. Full disclosure - I've eaten it before as leftovers and I've ordered the cheese bread while hanging out at Pour, but I've never been to actual Nina and Rafi's!
We started with the grilled artichokes. I would like to eat these every single day of my life. I am obsessed. They were spicy and salty and lemony and a great mixture of textures. Highly recommend! They were served on a toast and they were pretty substantial. And they were necessary, because the pizza takes about 30 minutes (very typical for a Detroit style pizza!) and we were both hangry when we arrived. We both ordered a glass of Lambrusco and it was so good with the artichokes! I don't usually drink sweet wines, but for some reason it sounded delish and it absolutely was.
The pizza was pretty good, too! They definitely use the right amount of cheese and the pepperonis are the right kind, too. They curl up on the ends and become little shot glasses full of grease lol. It was close to what I grew up eating, but not spot on. Overally, I definitely think the price is spot on for the amount of food and the quality. And I wouldn't really expect to pay anything less for a restaurant smack dab on the BeltLine!
