Mardens is a must go to store whenever we visit from CT. The fabric selection is the best part of the store. The women that work in the fabric area are knowledgeable and very helpful.
The rest of the store is hit or miss. A lot of junk, but lots a gems too. We always come away with something. If you're in the area, it's definitely worth the stop.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Information sur le responsable du commerce

Love to shop Mardens in Ellsworth. Their furniture and cooking selection is fantastic! I had a strange, awkward experience with the check out person, Zoe. As I approached the cash register he looked up and stated, I will let you know when I'm ready for you. I smiled, and said okay. My husband and I were the only other customers at the register. When he finished checking out the person in front of me he looked at us and proceeded to get on the speaker to say, line 6 ....smurked and waved us over...the rest of the experience was about the same. This representative of Mardens was rude, and unhelpful as I was struggling with my stuff and never offered a bag. My husband inquired about a bag and he said, yes for 5 cents .. we would have gladly paid for one. I don't normally right reviews good or bad but I have never seen a more, rude, arrogant employee in my life. I hope this review gets back to Zoe. Maybe, customer service is not your forte sir, or mam. I don't want to assume. Thank you for your time.

Mardens is great. The employees are happy and helpful. If you go to a big box store you can tell their employees are not treated well. It is different at mardens and that attitude is payed forward to the customer. If your a bargain hunter this is the place to go. I try to walk through the store weekly and see what's new. Always new inventory. Any home repair I do I start at mardens they don't have everything you need but you can always find somthing. The saving are huge and the products are the same as or better than the Home Depot down the road.

The fabric selection is out of this world! And the help is great--patient and efficient. Great store!

Mardens... as a local what can i say?? I love you most time I walk in the old Walmart doors! staff is always amazing and helpful. good portions of the deals are amazing!! some things are over priced and no one will buy them! but i do love it when dog food comes in, muddy clothing that is so cheap i can scream holding my Clorox and make it clean again! My daughter goes through shoes every two week. I always buy them at mardens. Who can go wrong with buying shoes for under 10.00 AND HAVE TRACTION on them unlike Walmart. im going tonight :D

Of the various Marden's locations, this is not the best. BUT if you are looking for flooring, this is the better when compared to Calais and Brewer.
This is a HUGE location and it's filled to the rafters with stuff. Not all of it is good stuff. Some of it is junk. It is the very antithesis of organized. They make some effort to try to be organized, in that there is a row of sporting goods, one of kitchen goods, and another with other stuff. the goods are basically tossed in each aisle leaving the shopper to fend for themselves.
the only aisles that offer some form of organization are the hardware, fabric, and flooring section. the rest? Not so much.
The fabric section should be mentioned. It's awesome. Last season's (or the season before) fabric at low prices. If you quilt or do any sort of fabric craft AT all you can find some amazing deals in Marden's on fabric. It is also the only area of the store that looks as though it's cleanish. Where you might unload $200 on the same amount of fabric at Joanne's at mardens you'll spend a fraction of that. For $100 you can get enough fabric to make a good sized quilt.
This location is also beginning to lose it's shine. After they took over the walmart building it was shiny and new and looked great. The exterior could use a paint job, but I guess they haven't salvaged the red paint yet... The once well maintained lot is heaved and has pits. The interior could do with the floor being washed and a solid dusting. It's not filthy just getting there.
Where clothing you'd do yard work in, because you'll be digging around looking for things and it's not clean.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0 - Carol A.Vernon, États-Unis051117 avr. 2019
Been to Ellsworth many times, plenty of parking plus they have Tractor Supply on one side and Dollar Tree on the other, very convenient, easy in and out at the traffic lights. Best to go during the week not weekend. You need time to look, never know what you will find, sometimes good buys on grocery items like cereal, sometimes sheets, good fabric department but not a good selection for yarn and crafts. Found some good buys on Hanes or Land's End stuff, couple times we found good deals on copy paper. No it ain't Tiffany's or Sax 5th Avenue, but with patience you can get some good deals. Yes they have a lot of junk too. But it is kinda fun to bargain hunt time to time.

Marden's recently moved into the old Walmart and is MUCH nicer than it was before. It can still be hit and miss, but their collection of cookware is awesome. I got a $30 Wilton cake pan for SIX BUCKS!! I also got a nice set of bamboo bowls and a serving plate for $5.
The clothing section isn't very impressive, but Marden's is definitely worth a visit.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Daniel M.Lenexa, États-Unis14722 août 2015
Cheap crap, cheap crap, then a Picasso. Come look through the piles of stuff. Just when you are ready to give up - you find a tremendous bargain. It's a time commitment to find the good stuff. If you are a bargain hunter you'll love it. I never go looking for something specific. As I am looking, something rises through the the crap like a Phoenix to be cherished.

Marden's is definitely a bit rougher around the edges than Reny's and you really need to check out wat you are buying to make sure there are no spots, stains or if it is broken. If you are a bargain shopper, there are some good deals to be had here. It's very hit or miss though. I've walked out with nothing, thinking that it is a total dump or I have visits like yesterday. Yesterday's haul was a pair of classic black pants from Talbot's originally priced at $99, three winter scarves, three skeins of Red Heart yarn with an original price of $6.29 each and a pair of Bates knitting needles, all for $37.72.
